Learning German

Show notes

Today we will talk about a rather important topic, but one that is sometimes overlooked: Learning German. It may sound trivial as a native germanspeaker to say: “You are in Germany, so learn german!” Because that is way easier said than done. Especially during a doctorate, where you don’t have a lot of free time anyway. And what little free time you have, you should spend on yet more work. But, as we will see in this episode, it is a crucial part, not just for living in Germany, but also for being able to work and/ or stay here. So first up, we will talk to Clara Buitrago, our coordinator for internationalization here at the bghs, about the importance of learning German and her own experiences with that. There will be an interview with Andrea Didier, who is the team lead for PunktUm. To those native german speakers listening to this episode: Please don’t skip it! You may learn about some challenges your fellow doctoral researchers are facing and get a different perspective, but we will also talk about things germanspeakers can do to help others learn their language. So, stay tuned and enjoy todays episode!

Please don’t forget to follow our podcast if you are interested in everything to do with doing a PhD in Germany!
